COLLECTION: KOINOBORI
Springtime. On May 5 the ‘Children’s Day’ is celebrated in Japan by hanging ‘Koinobori’ (carp streamer windsocks). When the wind catches Koinobori, they move like carp swimming upstream.
The legend of the dragon gate tells the story of a Koi fish’s struggle upstream to reach the dragon gate. After a hundred years of jumping, one Koi finally reached the top of the waterfall and then turned into a golden dragon, the image of power and strength.
The Koi fish symbolises perseverance, youth, hope and of a destiny fulfilled. The journey from youth to adulthood from generation to generation.
